The Reviews Are In: AMD's Ryzen 9950X3D2 Is the Fastest for Gaming, But Not by Much


Reviews have dropped for AMD's new flagship, the Ryzen 9950X3D2 CPU with dual 3D V-cache, and it's definitely the fastest chip for gaming—but not by very much. It seems the 9850X3D and the 9950X3D were already plenty fast at their respective workloads, leaving only a little headroom to be found with a chip that doubles up on the cache and adds around 25% to the price tag.

In a move that has firmly riled some publications, too, AMD seems to have been quite selective about who it sent chips to. GamersNexus didn't get one, neither did TechPowerUp, HardwareLuxx, eTeknix, or PCWatch. Although a number of publications did get chips, the list is decidedly shorter than normal. Is that because of previous coverage or limited availability? We will have to see.

In the meantime, KitGuru highlighted that the 9950X3D2 only beats its predecessor by a few percent ...
