Cryptocurrency investment scams typically involve fake online crypto trading platforms that trick victims into investing huge sums of money as they believe their crypto earnings are rising. Running the scams are transnational criminal networks based in Southeast Asia, with operators who create fake identities and prey on U.S. victims through social media or text messaging, often blossoming into romance scams.
