TSMC Buys Land in Arizona for Fab Construction

TSMC is speeding ahead with its plans for a fab cluster in Phoenix, Arizona, the foundry revealed during Thursday's earnings call. It plans to speed up construction, build a packaging plant, and get started soon on the fourth fab, according to Reuters. TSMC shared the news of its accelerated building schedule while also announcing record profits.

Now TSMC faces the complex task of expanding to meet the massive demand of an ever-growing list of AI data centers under construction (or expansion). One of TSMC's Arizona fabs is already up and running. Construction of the second planned fab is well underway, and TSMC is now accelerating the timeline to bring it into mass production.
