On Friday, Samsung announced a new version of its Bixby smart assistant, which arrives via One UI 8.5. The brand says the new Bixby can understand everyday language more accurately and act directly on Galaxy settings, instead of just answering queries or opening menus—something Apple has been trying to do with its next-gen Siri, which keeps getting delayed.

Bixby can follow instructions like, "I don't want the screen to turn off when I'm looking at it," and Bixby will turn on the relevant display option without needing the exact menu name. For a query like "Why is my phone screen always on in my pocket?" Bixby shows options like accidental touch protection, which users can change. This is so much better than what current AI assistants do, which is largely just searching the web.
