The Empire of the Mouse and AI - how CEO Bob Iger sees working with OpenAI as a growth opportunity...at some point

With the row over AI vendors and copyright infringement - aka content theft! - shows no sign of abating, a timely update came yesterday on the progress of one partnership that’s supposed to set a good example of how things might be done - the tie-up between Disney and OpenAI.

Back in December, the Empire of the Mouse took a billion dollar bet that Sam Altman’s firm was no Mickey Mouse venture and signed a three year licensing deal to allow the AI firm to use its Sora tech to enable users to create and share user-promoted short videos using certain Disney-owned characters.

Yesterday as outgoing Disney CEO Bob Iger announced the latest financial update on the firm’s various businesses, he took time out to focus on what he called “the strength of our content and continued technology improvements” and cited the Sora deal as a case in point:
