Sony Could Delay PlayStation 6 Launch to 2028 or Later


Analyst David Gibson from MST Financial published a report on Sunday stating that Sony will delay the PlayStation 6 beyond its original arrival time, which was slated for next year. Now, the next-generation console is expected to launch in 2028 or later. The delay comes as the company benefits from exceptional PlayStation 5 performance and faces record-high memory chip costs driven by AI.

Sony's Q3 fiscal results, which become public on Feb. 5, are projected to beat market expectations with ¥1.8 trillion ($11.8 billion) in sales and ¥160 billion ($1 billion USD) in operating income, boosted by strong first-party and third-party game sales. The PS5 continues to sell well, with 84.2 million units shipped as of September 2025, and the company reportedly sees no need for a successor.
