Something for the weekend (and beyond) - Trump 2.0 goes nuclear on "left-wing nut jobs" Anthropic, but the fallout will engulf the entire tech sector

The deadline came, the deadline passed, and Trump 2.0 carried out its threat to go nuclear on Anthropic at the end of a week that has re-written the rules of engagement between Big Tech and Big Government.

Most people will be aware of the thrust of developments, but the Coles Notes version of the countdown is basically:

• Anthropic’s Claude was the only AI of its kind to be approved for use in the most security-sensitive military systems.

• The Department of War signed a $200 million dollar contract with the supplier.

• That contract contains two clauses that were there when the deal was signed - one banned the use of its tech for mass domestic surveillance, the other insisted it should not be used for autonomous weapons, with no human in the loop.
