Research - the barrier to AI has shifted from 'should we?' to 'why isn't it working?'
diginomica.comThe conversation around enterprise AI appears to be changing, according to new research from process intelligence vendor Celonis. Where skepticism and resistance once dominated discussions, operational readiness now appears to be the primary barrier. Celonis surveyed 1,649 business leaders across IT, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations departments, where only 6% now cited resistance to change as a major hurdle to scaling AI. Instead, the top barriers are lack of internal expertise (47%), difficulty getting AI to understand business context (45%), and misalignment between departments (45%).
In other words, according to the findings, we are shifting from "should we adopt AI?" to "why isn't our AI working?". The ambition is certainly there, with 85% of businesses saying they aim to become an 'agentic enterprise' within the next two to three years, using AI agents to automate tasks, make decisions, and adapt with minimal human input.
