If you've noticed your Apple TV isn't running as smoothly as it once did, or you've wondered whether you're really taking advantage of all its A/V capabilities, you're in the right place.

The current model -- the Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) -- has been around since late 2022, so it might be starting to feel a bit long in the tooth. Before considering an upgrade to a competitor, be aware that there are numerous under-the-hood settings and tweaks you can implement to noticeably enhance its performance, picture, and sound. Here are a few of my favorites.
- Go to Settings > Video and Audio.
- Select Format.
- Choose 4K SDR (or 1080p SDR on non‑4K TVs).
