Microsoft Blames Bug For Copilot Exposing Confidential Emails In Summaries


Microsoft's Copilot AI assistant is under fire for summarizing emails flagged as confidential by DLP (data loss prevention) policies specifically intended to prevent AI from accessing them. Per BleepingComputer, Microsoft began rolling out a fix for this problem in early February, and is "continuing to monitor the deployment and is reaching out to a subset of affected users to verify that the fix is working".

According to Microsoft, "A code issue is allowing items in the sent items and draft folders to be picked up by Copilot (Chat) even though confidential labels are set in place, and this functionality is unintended." It's a bad look for Microsoft, especially for those who are staunchly against AI-integration at the OS level or are aware of Copilot exploits used to steal data.
