M5 MacBook Air’s Faster SSD Beats Some M4 Pro Models

On any given day, you wouldn't expect a MacBook Air to beat a MacBook Pro's performance in any test. But Apple's new M5 MacBook Air has proven it can outpace some M4 Pro MacBook Pro models in SSD performance, Notebookcheck reports.

The publication pitted the 13-inch and 15-inch M5 MacBook Air models against the M5 MacBook Pro using Blackmagic Disk Speed Test. With a 5GB file, the M5 Air's SSD reached around 6.4 GB/s read speeds, compared to roughly 5.4 GB/s on a 16‑inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro under the same conditions. The only Pro model to beat the M5 Air was the 14-inch version at about 6.7 GB/s.
