Kirsten Davies Confirmed as Pentagon CIO

A former Unilever executive is officially the next U.S. Department of Defense CIO after Congress voted Thursday night to confirm Kirsten Davies.

The Senate voted 53-43 to confirm Davies in the position of CIO in a bloc vote that also confirmed the nominees for several other government roles. She was nominated for the role by President Donald Trump in May, and the Senate Armed Services Committee held a hearing on the nomination in September. The committee advanced her nomination in October.

The Pentagon CIO is the principal technology advisor to Pentagon leadership and manages the department's information management and IT, information assurance, non-intelligence space systems, critical satellite communications, spectrum management and telecommunications.
