Human Oversight Still Matters in AI-Driven Tax Workflows

Artificial intelligence can transform workflows by automating repetitive tasks, especially in tax and accounting, but the need for human judgment remains non-negotiable. Adam Orentlicher, CTO and senior vice president of tax and accounting in North America at Wolters Kluwer, said the company estimates that more than 50% of tax preparation involves mundane and manual tasks that AI can dramatically reduce.

But in regulated industries where liability and professional judgment are critical, complete automation isn't the answer. "Would you ever want your U.S. tax return to be 100% completed by AI without having a human review? Most people would probably say no," Orentlicher said.
