How Factories Lose Control When OT Meets the Cloud

The connected factory has become the norm in manufacturing, but security hasn't kept pace. As supply chains grow more automated and factory floors connect to cloud, SaaS and third-party systems, the OT environment has become one of the most exposed attack surfaces in enterprise security, said Brian Deitch, chief technology evangelist at Zscaler.

Deitch said the transition from manual processes to real-time supply chain integration means attackers now have multiple entry points into OT environments, and the consequences extend well beyond data loss.

"Someone's credentials are going to get compromised. Someone who shouldn't be there is going to log in. They have that lateral movement. They can move from server to server, IoT to IT, and then they just compromise you," Deitch said.
