Google’s New ‘Call Reason’ Tag Helps Android Users Spot Urgent Calls


One of Google's December updates to Android is a call reason functionality. The beta tool, rolling out through the Phone by Google app, lets you mark outgoing calls to saved contacts as urgent. The person you're calling sees that urgent tag on their incoming screen, and if they miss the call, the tag stays in their call history. This works only when both people use the Phone by Google app on Android.

Google also introduced upgrades to Expressive Captions, which add emotion tags, like "joyful" and "sad," on top of the real-time captions you already get for live videos, messages, and social posts. The captions also show intensity through all-caps text and ambient sounds like cheers and applause. Gboard's Emoji Kitchen, meanwhile, added more sticker combos, including festive ones for the season.
