Google Chrome Tests Integrated 'AI Mode' That Handles Tabs, Files, and Images in One Chat


Google is turning Chrome’s experimental AI Mode into a native tool within the browser, and the change is already visible in Chrome Canary. Instead of opening a Google Search page, AI Mode now runs on an internal address called chrome://contextual-tasks, which opens a dedicated interface for questions, files, and images in one place.

When users click the AI Mode button in the New Tab Page search box, Chrome now sends that request to this Contextual Tasks page. The interface shows a “Meet AI Mode” heading, a chat box for questions, a button to start a new thread, and a side panel to add an image, upload a file, or create images. Some parts still use placeholder labels, like “[i18n] Ask Google…”, which means the experience is still early and under active work, says Windows Report.
