Google Assistant's Android Retirement Date Confirmed

The smart assistant will stop working on Android in March 2026, with Gemini taking over as Google's primary digital assistant across Android phones, Android Auto, Wear OS, Google TV, and other platforms.
The confirmation came from a banner posted on Google's official Android Auto support forum. The company says Gemini understands the same voice commands as Google Assistant and also lets users speak more naturally to the AI.
Google Assistant first launched in May 2016. Over the years, it spread across watches, televisions, cars, and nearly every corner of Google's ecosystem. The assistant has been one of Google's most defining consumer tech features, helping users with tasks, answering questions, and controlling smart home devices.
