Gemini Prepares to Let Users Import Chats From ChatGPT and Other AI Bots


Google is testing an "Import AI chats" feature for Gemini that lets users migrate conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, and other competing platforms. First discovered by TestingCatalog, the beta option appears in Gemini's attachment menu and allows users to download chat history from another platform, then upload the exported file to Gemini. After migrating their data, users can continue a conversation they started elsewhere.

This feature addresses a core pain point: Switching AI chatbots or assistants usually means abandoning months of conversation history and personalization. But with this new feature, Google hopes to make it easier for ChatGPT and Claude users to at least try Gemini.
