If you rely on disposable plastic serving utensils during your holiday parties, you may be causing more harm than good to your guests. That plastic spoon you're placing in the punchbowl may contain  microplastics. These invisible particles are everywhere -- in the water, the air and definitely in some of your trusted cooking and serving utensils in the kitchen.

And if you think a little plastic is harmless, think again. A study from February 2025 study confirmed that these bits don't just leave your system; they accumulate in your body's tissues over time. While scientists are still trying to figure out exactly what diseases this might cause, it's still important to remain cautious and reduce your exposure as much as possible.
