CISOs Must Enable AI While Managing Shadow Adoption

Organizations face mounting pressure to adopt artificial intelligence, yet many CISOs struggle to balance innovation with security. Shadow AI emerges when security teams fail to enable safe adoption, forcing employees to implement tools independently and expanding attack surfaces.

"If you're not enabling your people to learn AI, they're going to learn it anyway because it's existential for them," said Adam Marrè, CISO at Arctic Wolf. Without enablement, AI use simply moves beyond security oversight.
"The principles haven't changed; the technology has," Marrè said. "You just need to understand the technology to then be able to put adequate controls around it."
