Cisco Pledges More Security in Network Equipment

Networking giant Cisco is vowing to step up warnings to customers who insecurely configure its equipment. The manufacturer's devices have been at the forefront of hacking campaigns launched by Chinese nation-state threat actors against telecoms, often resulting in wide-ranging and embarrassing breaches.

Cisco has stressed that Chinese hackers relied heavily on known vulnerabilities when breaking into telecom providers in the United States and elsewhere, but the company has nonetheless racked two-years-worth of post-mortem analyses pointing to its routers as a hacker pathway in major incidents (see: Feds Identify Ninth Telecom Victim in Salt Typhoon Hack).
