Can HR re-define work for the AI age? Another perspective - creating the "super-worker"


In his latest article today our own Brian Sommer tackles the thorny question of how - and if - HR can effectively re-design jobs. HR analyst Josh Bersin has his own perspective on this question and it makes for an interesting compare and contrast.

Bersin starts from the thesis that the real benefit of AI is not in reducing headcount and cutting labor costs, but in boosting Employee Engagement (EE) and productivity at both the individual employee and enterprise level. He argues that to date, the focus of most AI initiatives has been to boost personal productivity by implementing tools, such as Microsoft’s Copilot and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This kind of ‘assistance’ activity, which is the first stage in what Bersin perceives to be a four-phase AI transformation journey, generally leads to individual efficiency improvements of between 15%-30%.
