Bose Extends SoundTouch Cloud Support Deadline, Open-Sources API
extremetech.comBose has postponed the end date for cloud support for the SoundTouch series from Feb. 18 to May 6, 2026. The brand initially announced the discontinuation in October 2025, stating that maintaining cloud infrastructure for products launched in 2013 has become unsustainable as technology continues to evolve.
On May 6, the SoundTouch app will automatically update to a version that operates locally without cloud dependence. Users won't need to take any action; the app will apply the update when it opens.
Core functionality will remain the same after the transition. SoundTouch systems will continue to stream music via Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, and AUX. The app will continue to let users set up and configure systems, control playback with play, pause, skip, and volume commands, and group multiple speakers on the same Wi-Fi network.
