In the US, Black people of both genders make up 13% of the total population but account for only seven percent of the tech workforce. Black women, however, make up only a tiny percentage of that figure. In fact, of the 25% of women who work in tech overall, a mere three percent are Black.
Things are not much better in the UK where Black women represent a mere one of the domestic tech sector, up from 0.7% in 2022, according to the BCS Gender Diversity in the Tech Sector Report 2025. This is despite Black people of both genders accounting for a significantly higher four percent of the country’s total population.
