Two of the biggest rivals in the tech world just shook hands on a deal to make life significantly easier for IT teams.

Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud have launched a new multicloud networking service designed to make it easier and faster for companies to move data between their platforms. The two long-time rivals announced the jointly engineered system on Sunday, promising private, high-speed connections that can be activated in minutes rather than weeks.

The move comes as demand for reliable connectivity grows. Even short outages can cause major disruptions, as seen during the October AWS outage that knocked major platforms offline and could cost US companies up to $650 million, according to Parametrix.
