Apple's Siri Is Moving on from ChatGPT to Gemini

Apple is said to be preparing to power the next version of its Siri voice assistant with Google's Gemini. Bloomberg reports that the deal will see Apple pay Google approximately $1 billion annually for access to the model. Apple currently powers Siri with ChatGPT through a partnership with OpenAI, which doesn't incur any costs for Apple.

The iPhone maker plans to use Gemini as a temporary solution until its own large-scale AI systems are ready for the next step. With 1.2 trillion parameters, Gemini's scale is far bigger than Apple's current models. This step is likely to enhance Siri's ability to handle multi-step and contextually relevant user requests, enabling the assistant to perform more effectively in daily tasks.
