Apple Quietly Drops M3 Ultra Mac Studio's 512GB RAM Option


Apple has dropped the 512GB RAM variant of its M3 Ultra Mac Studio, capping the device's memory at 256GB. Though the brand didn't say why it abandoned the 512GB model, the decision is thought to be linked to the global memory shortage triggered by AI data centers' growing consumption.

Some documentation and third‑party spec listings still mention a 512GB option, but Apple's own online storefront no longer lets customers configure it, MacRumors noticed late last week. Worse, Apple has increased the price of the 256GB memory configuration from $1,600 to $2,000, making what was already a very expensive upgrade into an even bigger spend.

The move affects customers who use or want to use Mac Studio units for heavy workloads involving LLMs, massive datasets, or complex video timelines, all of which benefit from very high memory headroom.
