Apple Music Introduces 'Transparency Tags' for AI-Generated Tracks and Visuals


Apple is adding "Transparency Tags" to Apple Music to help users distinguish human-made works from AI-generated tracks and other assets. The company has informed labels and distributors that they can now add the tags to mark when a release incorporates AI-generated audio, lyrics, cover art, or video.

Apple says the new metadata system will help the industry track AI's incorporation into music while offering listeners clearer context when they stream content, per Music Business Worldwide.

Distributors can add:

  • artwork tags when they use AI‑generated or heavily AI‑edited visuals for a release,

  • track tags when AI creates a big portion of the instrumental, vocals, or other audio elements,

  • composition tags when AI contributes to lyrics or core musical ideas, and/or

  • music video tags when videos lean on AI for scenes or graphics.
