Agentic and generative AI – nearly all users encounter significant hidden costs, warns IDC

Winter has seen a blizzard of stories, and a flurry of reports, on the technology du jour: Artificial Intelligence (AI), often with a focus on that enterprise stocking filler, agentic systems.

That intensity of focus is no surprise, after a summer which suggested that the downward swing of the hype cycle had begun, heralded by the now-notorious MIT finding that 95% of enterprise programs return negligible benefits.
