2026 Subaru Outback to Feature Android Automotive, Snapdragon Chip
extremetech.comSubaru announced this week that its 2026 Outback will use Android Automotive OS. This makes Subaru one of the first major automakers to use Google's vehicle-specific operating system. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Automotive processor, the setup gives drivers access to Google services like Maps, Assistant, and other on-the-go apps without requiring a connected smartphone.
The automaker doubled its infotainment system's memory and storage to 8GB RAM and 128GB, respectively. Subaru says map swipes are now three times faster, audio screen transitions are six times faster, and general scrolling is twice as quick. The system has a 12.1-inch display powered by an Adreno GPU, supports Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2, and includes a Spectra ISP for live HDR camera feeds with better low-light performance.
