WPC Launches Qi2 25W Standard, Bringing Faster and More Compatible Wireless Charging to Smartphones

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has launched a new, faster version of its Qi charging standard called Qi2 25W. The update boosts devices' maximum charging power to 25W—almost 70% more than the original Qi2 standard that launched with 15W in November 2023. Qi2 25W also allows many major Android smartphones to join Apple iPhones in the Qi2 charging system for the first time.

Fourteen devices, including receivers and transmitters, have already completed an introductory slate of Qi2 25W certification testing. WPC says full-scale certification testing is now open, with hundreds of devices lined up.

Before the arrival of Qi2, many smartphone manufacturers developed their own fast charging protocols. But WPC points out that those options do not always guarantee consistent results from one brand to the next. Qi2 25W is the first Qi Certified standard to offer high-speed wireless charging with reliability and greater interoperability.
