Amazon has been focused on integrating generative AI into Alexa for the past few years, experiencing multiple delays in launching new features that the company first announced in September 2023. The delayed Alexa 2.0 was poised for a 2025 release, and Amazon held an event this past February where it finally made an announcement that the new generative AI-powered virtual assistant is ready.

Amazon unveiled Alexa+ in February and has been rolling out the voice assistant's generative AI features through an Early Access program. Since then, the company has released a new lineup of Echo devices, including the Echo Show 11, the Echo Dot Max, and the new Echo Studio.
