TIOBE Index: Top 10 Most Popular Programming Languages

C++ and C swapped places in the April 2025 TIOBE Programming Community Index top 10, with C++ rising to number two and C falling to number three. Further down the TIOBE leaderboard, the promise shown by Kotlin, Ruby, and Swift has dulled, as all three fell from the top 20 and may be destined for obscurity.

The world of programming languages is in a “consolidation phase,” with the top 20 most popular languages holding an unusually high concentration of all of the interest in languages.
