Qualcomm Acquires Nuvia Chip Startup Founded By Apple Veterans for $1.4 Billion


Qualcomm has announced an agreement to acquire Nuvia, a chip startup founded by Apple veterans for $1.4 billion.

5G is further accelerating the convergence of mobility and computing. The acquisition of NUVIA builds on Qualcomm Technologies’ Snapdragon technology leadership, delivering step-function improvements in CPU performance and power efficiency to meet the demands of next-generation 5G computing.

Nuvia is led by Gerard Williams III, he was a Senior Director at Apple and Chief CPU Architect for nearly a decade with responsibilities for a range of leading-edge CPUs and SoCs. The company's SVP of Silicon Engineering is Manu Gulati who spent eight years at Apple as the lead SoC architect responsible for numerous Apple leading-edge mobile SoCs across a range of devices. John Bruno,
SVP of System Engineering, spent five years at Apple where he founded Apple’s silicon competitive analysis team.
