Oracle Plans to Add 50,000 AMD Chips to Its Cloud


In yet another sign of AI's staying power, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) announced that it is picking up 50,000 AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs for an AI supercluster—and that's just the first batch. The company should have the cluster up and running in Q3 of 2026 and expects to deploy more GPUs starting in 2027. The announcement comes on the heels of a blockbuster deal between AMD and OpenAI, also for massive amounts of MI450 GPUs.

AMD's new Instinct MI450 GPUs will be onboard AMD's Helios rack systems, alongside AMD Epyc "Venice" CPUs and Pensando "Vulcano" networking hardware. Helios racks can handle up to 72 GPUs each and have liquid cooling to keep all the hardware in safe temperature ranges.
