OpenAI Launches GPT 5.1 With Options for Faster, Nicer Chats

OpenAI has launched the next version of its ChatGPT chatbot, known as GPT 5.1. This model reportedly works faster than its predecessors, delivering stronger responses to more demanding questions while getting to the point more quickly on easier prompts. It also brings a range of new "personalities," allowing users to further customize their chat experience.

The last time OpenAI launched a new model, GPT-5, it was largely panned. Gone was the sycophantic style of GPT-4o, leaving users with a cold, repetitive personality that seemed all too keen to use the same conversation responses. Think, "That's so X, and honestly..." to begin almost every reply. Although GPT-5 performed better on certain benchmarks, specific training to achieve those had knocked it out of a loop when it came to its bread and butter: chatting.
