Nvidia Rumored to Be Increasing Power for Blackwell GPUs: RTX 5090 at 600W, 5080 at 400W


One of the longer-running jokes on the internet is about how big and hot Nvidia's GPUs have become, but that's a misnomer. The company kept power consumption largely unchanged from Ampere to Ada Lovelace (although GPU size increased). But it's reportedly set to crank things up to 11 with Blackwell GeForce by raising power consumption across the board. The result would be a 600W RTX 5090, which sounds outrageous, but it's important to keep in mind this exact same rumor appeared before the launch of the RTX 40-series as well, so add some salt to this one.

Noted hardware leaker kopite7kimi has revealed power consumption numbers for the RTX 50-series on Twitter, and if accurate, Nvidia is taking things to a whole new level for consumer GPUs.
