Munificent 7 vow to spare US households from AI's rising energy costs

Seven of the top US AI companies and hyperscalers have officially agreed to protect American consumers from price hikes due to datacenter energy and infrastructure increases caused by the AI build boom.

But while the commitment aims to see them bear the costs of delivering the power for their AI ambitions, there appears to be no way of enforcing this.

At the behest of President Trump, the bunch of tech giants signed the Ratepayer Protection Pledge that the growing energy needs of AI datacenters will not increase household electricity costs for American citizens.

The companies corralled into signing the agreement at the White House comprise Amazon, Google, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI, Oracle, and xAI.

According to the pledge, they agree to build, bring, or buy the extra resources and electricity needed to satisfy their energy demands, and cover the full cost of those resources themselves.
