Microsoft Pauses Windows 11 KB5079391 Preview Update Following Install Failures

Microsoft has paused the Windows 11 KB5079391 preview update after several systems reported installation issues with error 0x80073712. The update was for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2 and first appeared as a non‑security "C‑week" cumulative release, as reported by Bleeping Computer.

Affected PCs reportedly displayed messages indicating that some update files were missing or encountered problems, prompting Windows to halt installation. Systems continued to run normally after the failure, and there is no current evidence of any data loss or boot issues directly tied to this update.

Microsoft has updated its release notes to say it has temporarily limited the availability of the update as it investigates the error.
