Microsoft Is Testing its Own Version of Supersampling for Windows


Over the past few years, the gaming industry has turned to "AI-powered" upscaling solutions to help increase gaming performance. They let a game run at a lower resolution and then use "AI" to determine what's missing when converting it to a higher-resolution image. Intel, Nvidia, and AMD each have their versions of this upscaling technology for gaming, and now it appears Microsoft is also working on something similar.

A new "super-resolution" feature in the latest version of Windows 11 is available in the most recent test build, indicating that Microsoft wants in on the upscaling game. As The Verge points out, Twitter user PhantomOfEarth posted screenshots of the feature, which is named Automatic Super Resolution. The text descriptor says it allows you to "use AI" to make supported games play more smoothly, which sounds like traditional upscaling.
