Meta Reveals the Smart Glasses You've Always Wanted
extremetech.comMeta unveiled several new products at yesterday's Connect event, but two mattered most: Ray-Ban Meta Display glasses and an unexpected peripheral called the Neural Band. The glasses are the release version of the long-rumored Meta "Hypernova," the mass-market, user-friendly smart glasses that put a display right before your eyes.
Or, your eye. The Display glasses integrate a 600-by-600 pixel, 5000-nit image into the right lens only, allegedly sitting toward the bottom of your vision.
The glasses are ostensibly for augmented reality, but this wasn't too evident in the initial reveal. Much of it was "smartphone on your face" functionality, like reading texts without looking down at your phone. The most advanced use shown, in my opinion, was the real-time transcription and translation function, which can put subtitles over real life. The glasses also carry a 12-megapixel camera capable of capturing up to 1440p video at 30fps.
