Meta Is Prepping a 'Hyperrealistic VR' Headset For Siggraph, and It's Huge

Meta is prepping a range of new virtual reality headset prototypes for the SIGGRAPH show in Vancouver next week, but these aren't new versions of its consumer Quest headsets. One model is said to be capable of "hyperrealistic VR," with more pixels per degree than almost any other headset and a sky-high brightness.

The only downside is that its field of view is terrible, and the headset itself is gigantic.

In the decade-plus since it acquired Oculus VR, Meta's major contribution to virtual reality hardware has been accessibility. It's brought the price down considerably and made inside-out tracking viable, with lightweight, easy-to-use headsets that aren't quite as good as PCVR standouts, but they do the job well enough.
