Meta Finds Another Way to Show You Targeted Ads


Meta is changing its privacy policy. Beginning Dec. 16, the company will use information about how you interact with its AI tools to show targeted ads on Facebook and Instagram. With the exception of those in South Korea, the United Kingdom, and the European Union—where privacy laws prohibit this level of data collection—the change will impact all users globally. There is no way to opt out.

Meta already builds detailed profiles of users to help advertisers target their marketing materials. However, this update means conversations with Meta AI will soon add to these profiles, giving Meta another way to refine the ads shown to users. For example, if users chat with Meta AI about swimming, they could start seeing ads for swimming gear, pool installation, or nearby pool rentals.
