LG Introduces 1–120Hz LCD Laptop Display


LG Display has kicked off mass production of a new laptop LCD panel that can run from 1Hz to 120Hz, aiming to significantly improve battery life. The company says this Oxide 1Hz panel can cut power use by dropping to 1Hz for static tasks like reading emails or documents, then ramping up to 120Hz for gaming and video playback, per a video published by LG Display Global.

The panel uses oxide-thin-film transistors that leak less current than older amorphous silicon designs, helping the display hold an image with less power at very low refresh rates. LG says its custom algorithms enable the screen to adapt to the laptop's usage in real time, delivering up to 48% more use on a single charge than current laptop screens.
