Lego Introduces a 'Smart Brick' That Reacts to Play in Real Time


This week, Lego introduced its new Smart Brick, a standard 2x4 Lego brick equipped with a tiny computer. The company announced the product at CES 2026 and will begin selling it on March 1st, 2026.

The chip that powers the Smart Brick is smaller than a single Lego stud and connects to a wireless charging coil, rechargeable battery, LED lights, a speaker, and multiple sensors that pick up on motion, light, and sound. The brick communicates with other Smart Bricks through a local Bluetooth mesh network called BrickNet, which informs each brick of the distance and position of nearby pieces. Smart Bricks also read Smart Tags, a special 2x2 tile with embedded IDs, and Smart Minifigures with digital IDs built into their torsos.
