Jaguar Land Rover Hack Cost $260 Million

The September cyberattack on Jaguar Land Rover resulted in a company loss of roughly $260 million, the British carmaker reported Friday while also announcing a resumption of normal production.

The automaker said its racked up 196 million pounds worth of expenses after a breach detected on Sept. 1 led to the company shutting down assembly lines in the United Kingdom, Slovakia, Brazil and India.

A cybercrime group consisting principally of Western adolescent hackers with the moniker "Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters" took responsibility for the hack. Jaguar Land Rover, a division of Indian multinational Tata Motors, acknowledged mid-September that hackers stole data (see: Jaguar Land Rover Hackers Stole Data).
