Intel May Start Making AMD CPUs at US Foundries


Intel has begun preliminary discussions with AMD about producing the latter company's high-end processors at its US-based foundries. Although both companies are rivals in the CPU space for consumers and data centers, Intel has recently pivoted more towards chip design and manufacturing under its new CEO, Lip-Bu Tan. Additionally, Intel has received sizeable investments from Nvidia and Intel to expand its US operations, making it a potential strategic partner for AMD in the turbulent global trade environment.

AMD hasn't produced its own chips for almost two decades and has instead, in recent generations, used cutting-edge process designs from TSMC. However, with TSMC primarily based in Taiwan, where there is increasing tension from nearby China and the United States' push to use more domestic production, AMD is reportedly considering Intel as a potential partner.

It's possible that AMD could use Intel to produce certain chiplets in its designs ...
