How to Watch the Southern Delta Aquariids and Perseids Meteor Showers


In July and August two spectacular meteor showers will arrive in quick succession. Here’s everything you need to know to watch them and the other major showers that will appear in 2025.

If you want to get into stargazing in 2025, there’s no better place to start than viewing a meteor shower. Meteor showers, or shooting stars, happen when Earth’s orbital path crosses a path of debris left by a comet and that material burns up in the Earth’s atmosphere. Watching a meteor shower is one of the most accessible ways to engage with the night sky.

The next showers of the year are the Southern Delta Aquariids—which peak for about a week at the end of July—and the Perseids—which will peak overnight on August 12–13. Both showers will be active until August 23.
