Google Quietly Launches Free Offline Dictation App for iOS

The app allows you to transcribe voice recordings even when you are offline by performing speech recognition tasks locally. This means users can record and transcribe audio in places with poor or no network access.
The app uses Google's Gemma-based speech models to convert speech to text and clean up the resulting transcript. It can remove filler words like "um" and "uh," making stilted speech easier to read. Though the app can perform offline by downloading Google's models, it can also use cloud-based Gemini models in a hybrid mode to further polish text when the phone has an internet connection.
