Google Maps Tests Monochrome Power-Saving Mode for Low-Battery Navigation

Once active, Maps switches to a minimal interface that drops most on-screen elements and turns the display monochrome, showing only the next turn or basic route details.
This mode functions independently from Android's built-in Battery Saver and can be turned on directly from the app. It is said to work across driving, walking, and two-wheeler options. (Support for public transport is unconfirmed.) The code also reveals that Google Maps will only support portrait orientation in this mode, which is likely how most people tend to use it anyway.
